2 kool 4 skool is a funky punchy track with a slight prince twist that works on the dance floor. If my memory serves me well, drums are supplied by none other than Spandau Ballet’s drummer. Nice effects are used in the track including crowd noise and filters.
“What a life (Amsterdam)” could be described as an English hip hop version of the Streets and I haven’t worked out whether Mr Deluxe is trying to take the piss. Nonetheless, a humorous funky track.
Whilst there are further tracks on the LP that deserve attention, the highlight for me is the awesome “Mundaya”. Short 16 bar intro before breaking down, “Mundaya” features lovely meditative middle eastern vocal chanting before kicking into a strong & dirty sounding verse that we expect from Mr Deluxe with repeated vocal “Mundaya” over the top. The best of the track is the main breakdown that makes many a young lady sway to the slow caressing chant, probably one of the cleverest and effective breakdowns in a house track this year. The breakdown builds up again with a great guitar progression linked with a nice chant along with the usual kick/snare combo. The rest of the track remains energetic and gets the crowd going every time. Probably why “Mundaya” is the next release off this very fine offering from Tim Deluxe.
