Hi guys click below to catch up on latest Ben James happenings...

First and foremost a big thank you to a one Bill Fragos for his mention of my efforts at the Vodka Bar (Moskva), in Edition 2 of the new and highly credible street mag Twenty4Seven.

For those of you who don't know, Bill listed Paul Glenn (Electric Circus), Professor X (Savvy) and myself Ben James (Vodka Bar) as 3 individuals to catch up on some up-front house in a decent environment on a regular basis with. Taking DJing very seriously (and yet also having lots of fun at the same time) I appreciate the compliment. Bill has influenced my style of music (especially in the early days) and then more so, as I've matured in my DJing, in my attitude to house and 'spreading the word' so to speak - in relation to sharing house music, and a passion for new and upfront house sounds...so you have Bill to blame if you hear me whinge 'that came out 3 weeks ago dude'. ;)

Thanks to Bill: it's a compliment coming from one of the highest souces in terms of house knowledge and appreciation in this little town called Adelaide.

And now on to the music! Well personally I haven't been that inspired by a lot in the last 7-10 or so days...but praise the lord I stumbled across some quite exciting new releases (and promos) today in my online shopping.

So if you're out and about tonight after Mobin's set at Savvy (see front page for details) and want to party on, I'll be playing these tunes and others in my resident 2am-5am set tonight at the Vodka Bar.

Physics - The Most Beautiful Boy In Brazil (Playmaker Remix)

Chroma - Twilight (Emjay & Steviesole Baracus Mix)

Andre Harris - Get Down Africa (Main Mix)

Annette Taylor - Faith (Copyright Dub)

Mojo Project - Tell Me Why (Kiki Navarro Funk Explosion Mix)

Punkrok feat. Katherine Ellis - Get Dirty (Vocal Mix)

Kokolo Afrobeat Orchestra - Mister Sinister (Faze Action Vocal Mix)

Hope to see you all out on the dance floor this week, apologies to those who came in last week as my set was sub par due to extremely poor health.

But tonight...it's time to party!

Enjoy Mobin's set tonight guys and hopefully I'll see you on the D-Floor dancing to myself and BOS on live sax in the wee hours of tomorrow morning.

Peace, Ben James.

Hello again guys, picked up some new tunes in the last few days that I'm very excited about playing...most of the tunes are designed for BOS (live sax) to jam over so you might find them a little bland, but they're still funkin' groovin' tunes.

Davidson Ospina - Chantos

Deep Zone Project - Arrogance Lifestyle / Let's get down now (We don't stop 'till we get enough)

Shawn Christopher feat. Ron Carroll - You Can Make It:Part 2 (B's Preacher-Man Mix )

M.o.D - Moonshine (Latin Flava Mix)

Axwell feat. Steve Edwards - Watch The Sunrise (Original HAHAHA mix)

Grant Nelson - Je Suis Le Drogue (Jackin Dub Mix)

See y'all tonight [Sat 6th August) at Savvy from 12 or Vodka Bar (Moskva) from 2am till close.

Savvy Set List (none / 0) (#2)

Thanks to those dancing last night. Tunes I played at Savvy (in order);

Rockers Revenge - Walking On Sunshine (Hott 22 Rhodes Remix)
Kokolo Afrobeat Orchestra - Mister Sinister (Faze Action Vocal Mix)
M.o.D - Moonshine (Latin Flava Mix)
Love Box - Love You More Everyday (Morten Trust Remix)
Regina's Sax Experience - Matt Caseli Caseli (Porn Mix)
Mojo Project - Tell Me Why (Kiki Navarro Funk Explosion Mix)
Andre Harris - Get Down Africa (Main Mix)
Inaya Day - Lift It Up (Foundation Mix)
Inaya Day - Nasty Girl (Riffs and Rays Remix)
Bon Garcon - Freek U (Haji & Emanuel Remix)
Axwell feat. Steve Edwards - Watch The Sunrise (Original HAHAHA mix)
Annette Taylor - Faith (Copyright Dub)
Shawn Christopher feat. Ron Carroll - You Can Make It:Part 2 (B's Preacher-Man Mix)

I enjoyed the set, started off pretty relaxed, moved into funky tunes on the jazz tip with Sax Experience and the Kiko Navarro tune...and then a triple girly play with Inaya and Bon Garcon... before testing out some newbies towards the end - and before you know it, 90 minutes is up. "Get Down Africa" probably wasn't too well placed, it's rather deep for the Saturday night crowd, but heck I love it. "Watch The Sunrise" was well recieved, that guitar just damn right down and funky, Axwell with another bomb. I'll be interested how the new Ron Carroll tune holds up, the preacher thing has been thrashed out a bit... and I'm still undecided if it's a bomb or will become annoying and whiny after a few weeks - we'll wait and see. Not the most articulate write up of the night, but I'm bloody hungover and tired.

Thanks also to the Vodka Bar (Moskva) faithful, who enjoyed those tunes and more. Personal highlight of the night was ripping out Deep Zone Project - Arrogance Lifestyle/Let's get down. That second breakdown when the violins kick in. Cripes buckle up kids.

Punkrok w Katherine Ellis - Get Dirty (Main Mix) also was well recieved, and Olav Basoski - Streets of Moscow (2005 Mix) with BOS on sax going head to head with the sax in the track was a sight to behold. Blew the roof off. Also on Olav's latest EP comes Promises, another huge tune well received.

See you all next week! Stay safe.

Ben James.

Hey bud, Thanks for all the contributions. I am sorry couldn't really stay for your set a Savvy. Sounda like you had fun. Tell you what- Vodka bar looks like one of the best clubs in Adelaide easy! Great new bar gives it serious depth. I can imagine the vibe in there on a busy night. On Friday there where, however, nuff visits by Adelaide 50.....hmmmm. Overcrowding?? Anyway, hope to catch you next Sat, might drop into Vodka after the show at Savvy this Sat night. Laters

Yeah there's a bit of attention lately...all under control as far as I know. The new bar does give a great new dimension, allows for some up close viewing of the DJ booth too, hopefully creating more interest in DJing in general...

Thanks to everyone who came in last night. The set was a mixed bag of goodies, with the mood changing quite a number of times throughout the 3 hours.

Thanks again to BOS for his fantastic efforts last night.

Tunes I enjoyed playing included:

Davidson Ospina - Chantos
Mojo Project - Tell Me Why (Kiki Navarro Funk Explosion Mix)
Annette Taylor - Faith (Copyright Dub)
Havanna Funk - Ya Salio (John Kano Dirty Havana Dub)
Bon Garcon - Freek U (Haji & Emanuel Remix)
Shawn Christopher feat. Ron Carroll - You Can Make It:Part 2 (B's Preacher-Man Mix)
Axwell feat. Steve Edwards - Watch The Sunrise (Original HAHAHA mix)
Chroma - Twilight (Emjay & Steviesole Baracus Mix)
Deep Zone Project - Arrogance Lifestyle / Let's get down now (We don't stop 'till we get enough) with `E-Samba' acapella chorus loop
Punkrok feat. Katherine Ellis - Get Dirty (Vocal Mix)
Olav Bosaski - African Dub

Top 3 of the night were
TJM - Small Circle Of Friends (DJ Prom's Stompin Peak Time Mix)

As long as you don't say 'play something good' or 'do you have any music we can dance to?' I'm looking forward to it.

Thanks for coming in last week, this week will be a good old hoot - see you on the dance floor.

Yep I think I know the ones...the two girls with the cheeky smiles who kept checking me out and winking at me?

Seriously though - curly haired brunette with a taller straight haired blonde?

I'm glad you had prime position for what I believe was the closest I've ever come to a perfect set. I just don't know where to begin...who can forget the Peter Heller's Phela Vox remix of Everybody, into the original Everybody, then into TJM - Small Circle Of Friends (DJ Prom's Stompin Peak Time Mix). And for old times sake as a special Birthday request, the musicapella of Chase the Sun with the echo effect on BOS! I can't remember the last time I felt such energy in the room. Hands in the air people!

Futhermore, TimBOS (Sax) was absolutely on point Saturday night. When I came on at 2am, I resetted the mood, dropped the energy a fair bit, went a touch deeper, and sorted out who was there for the cheese and who was there for the new quality house. The energy built slow but steady over the first 4-5 tracks, and from then on it you could tell whom the discerning listeners were and that they were ready for some upfront house. Again many thanks to BOS for bringing some of those new deeper tracks alive...

I'll post the set list and more thoughts, but thanks again for coming and being an appreciative audience. I think you saw me at my best Saturday night - cutting, scratching, beat manipulating, jumping around and hand clapping!

I hope you enjoyed yourselves half as much as I did.
