After typing for about 3 pages, my thumb slipped and hit the 'back' button on the mouse, just as I was about to post. Clearing all forms. Augh!!! So you get the cut down version of events. Bleh.
Sequence of events
- My car dies. Or is killed. Depends on your point of view ;-)
- Michelle's car dies. Dead battery. Or alternator
- I arrange for Michelle to meet mechanic at house to organise repair. Or new battery. Or whatever. At 3.20pm
- I organise to pick up the Mustang before 5pm
- I get taxi to Edwardstown to get Mustang at around 2:45
- I pay $800 (already forked over $1000) and pick up Mustang.
- Mustang battery is low. I get a jump and resolve to charge battery when I get back
- On the way back, I get call(s) from Michelle to say the cab is 1/2 hour late. I tell her I'm on the way and race home to meet mechanic
- I arrive home and the Mustang immediately starts pissing water from the bottom radiator hose at the engine end
- Mechanic arrives and checks Charade. Battery is dead - giving off one volt.
- Jumpstart Charade, and Mechanic tells me it looks like the alternator is giving battery too much charge.
- Mechanic doesn't have a replacement battery
- Mechanic tightens hose on Mustang, and leak appears to have stopped
- Mustang won't start. Even with jumpstart pack. Mechanic reckons the starter is drawing too much current.
- Mechanic jumpstarts the Charade and charges me their minimum call out fee. 99 dollars!! I wonder if they have a maximum...
- So now I've got to get the Charade to an auto parts place to get a battery without stalling it.
- Battery bought (68 dollars) and installed
- Pick up Michelle who then drops me back to work in the city
- I check my email. Deal with some work stuff and return home.
- I pull the Charade from the driveway, and use it to jumpstart the Mustang which miraculously starts. Guess that starter is okay and maybe Mr Mechanic's jumpstart kit needs some help..
- Mustang goes in first, followed by Golf, followed by Charade.
- So by 7pm I have 3 working (mostly) cars in my drive
Yes you heard me right. 99 dollars for a freaking jumpstart!!! Augh!!!
The Mustang
This thing is looking awesome. They've repainted and tidied up the engine bay. The new engine (351 Cleveland) has a 4-barrel Holley carb and chromed rocker covers. It looks like a v8 should look... pimped out!! They also replaced my ripped up back seats for some old, but unscathed ones. I need to charge the battery overnight, but I might take it for a fuel, a wash and a thrash over the weekend and really see what the new motor can do. It certainly has a nice sound to it. The throttle is a little stiff but if you put your foot down hard, it's got some pull.
