I had originally intended to give a day-by-day account of my C64 activities, but of course I don't have enough time for that, so I'll just give an update as to what's happened over the last few weeks.
Star Commander
Brilliant bit of software. Modelled after Norton Commander, you can use a XE1541 cable to copy d64 images (c64 1541 disk images) to your 1541 drive (onto *real* floppies).
64HDD
Also extremely cool software, although it only runs under DOS. This lets you mount a 64 image as a virtual drive/disk and load stuff direct from the PC to the 64. Works great! Tried mucking about with DOSEMU under linux to try and make it go, but it didn't work :-( I'll give it a try under bohcs and vmware and see if I get any further..
Metal Warrior 1-4
These games written by
Covert Bit-Ops
are brilliant and freely downloadable as well. It's awesome to see folks are still pumping out quality games for this old platform. Makes you wonder what will be happening on the Dreamcast in 20 years time...
Head Over Heels
A PC (er, windows) version (so doesn't *strictly* come under c64 activities ;-) of this old isometric game which was released on the C64 (originally on spectrum?). These folks have added colour and made it into a fun windows game. Freely downloadable from retrospec.sgn.net
.
cc65
This is an awesome C compiler which runs on the PC, but targets not just the 64 but most (if not all of) the commodore 8bits. It comes with an awesome assembler too, which I've been using to do a bit of practice coding. Also included is a disassembler which I'm itching to test out..
Well, that's it for now, and not very chronological, but I'll try and keep things in a bit better order from now on..
