Possibly the appeal of Dance 100 was it's tendancy to let everyone have a go. Many of this city's best DJs have done a stint at Dance 100. Those that haven't are certainly aware of it's contributions. Every style was catered for, from house to trance, progressive, drum and bass, R&B, funk, jungle, techno - you name it, they had it.
The only drawback to the station was it's broadcast range. If you lived west of the city, chances were you could've tuned in. Anywhere else, well, if you were lucky... But with the types of music on offer, the mobile listener was the intended target anyway. Driving around the city, heading to the clubs or just cruising.
The station and it's programmes will be sorely missed and it will be a challenge for anyone to fill the gap left by it's departure. The task rests with other community stations like Fresh FM
now, but perhaps a commercial offering is not too far off, like
Nova FM maybe? Even so, I suspect that it will be a long time before we see such a concentration of diverse dance music knowledge on the one station again. Post your eulogy for Dance 100 below...
